I am going to be making a few changes as the house starts to reach its conclusion (they taped and mudded the walls today). I have realized that my page that tracked the development of the plants and yard needs some re-thinking. A rethink-reconfiguration-replacement will go up this Summer (sooner if I have time on my Spring break).
But first, I thought a new banner for the front page was in order. For several years I have had a rotating banner up. But, as I am anticipating a new year with the return of the lovely native lilies (trillium grandiflora) I decided to make those a feature on the website for now. The banner you see is from the Spring of 2011.
We have ordered the tile for the master bathroom. This weekend, I hope to go buy the paint I want for the bathrooms. High-gloss enamel stands up better to wet conditions than standard latex gloss paints, so I am looking at options for that… so many things to consider. Little things I forgot seem to be adding up quickly. NOT making major changes, just things like how much GROUT for tiles will cost! Or remembering I will need to prime certain things before I paint. And realizing I have to wait for a while to paint because the plaster from the taping needs to cure for about 30 days.

At least things at school seem to be going well!
I have been waiting for a long time to be able to say that the house is finally actually sealed up.
These pics are from yesterday morning. Didn’t make it home today, and won’t make it tomorrow either — but Friday after school ends, I will be there with bells on!
Tom took the actual pictures, he’s as excited about it as I am!
And that’s it for now. Next panic-driven decision: tile for the master shower, and how I want to set the shower bed and waterproof behind the tile. Hoping I can get the tile in soon enough that I won’t have to take time off to do it (have a long weekend coming up).
We have gravel down as the base for the back patio. It gives a rough idea of the dimensions (about 60 feet long by 8 feet wide) with a cutout partway to keep the master bedroom section a little more private. I am including a picture of the gravel that will underlay the front porch first, that is a bit smaller, about 4 feet wide and 20 feet long.
I am going to tile our shower. Haven’t done exactly this sort of thing before, but “how hard can it be?” — right?
So today Tom and I chose the tile for this project, which will begin as soon as I have drywall. Probably next weekend!
Here’s a little picture.
I’ll take some pictures of the base for the patio tomorrow if I get out there again. Today Tom and Grant planted the sad little redwood (it had been topped) in the back yard, and I pruned the spirea a bit. It all needs so much more work, but every hour that I spend at home is a true gift. I so love my land!
