Word Wall

It is appropriate for students of all levels to take note of new and interesting words they find in the process of reading in the content areas.  Below are a few words I am encountering, both science-related and from the other texts I am reading for the Winter quarter program. I will add definitions, generally from Merriam-Webster or the online visual thesaurus as I actually look them up. When possible, I will create a link to the full definition and pronunciation.

  • lacunae: a gap in a structure (when I saw it, used to mean a gap in information).
  • habitus: (in sociology) a person’s predisposition; (in medicine) a person’s body type and physical condition.
