It seems that I regularly go through phases where one room or another deserves (or needs, and at the very least wants) a makeover. Well, for the last couple of years, since the first skylight developed a leak and was quickly repaired, the office has been all-but unusable while I waited for wallboard to be installed and such. This summer’s visitor spurred us into action and although not all the trim got up and the texturing really needs to be redone throughout, the paint and furnishings are now acceptable. And no more leaks from the roof or drafts from the walls. And the boxes that once filled the space front to back and nearly as tall as me, were moved out.

So now, we are putting everything back (as mentioned in my earlier post). Taking things from the storage locker and from under the tarps in the back yard, and returning them to their rightful places. Throwing out a good bit, though an attempt was made to do this earlier, and consolidating as much as possible.

Here are three pictures from today, AFTER I worked for three hours. To be fair, the tall stack of apple boxes were just moved back in from the dining room… and several items need to be put on the long shelf over the workbench and desk so are waiting for taller folk.

First, an establishing shot, looking through the 4-foot wide doorway. The room is about 12 x 12 feet square. Not too bad from this angle…

But wait! Look left:

The yellow linen jacket on the chair needs ironing, but what’s with the stuff on top of my filing cabinet?

And then right:

There is a workbench there, somewhere, under all the papers and boxes. As soon as it is cleared off, I will paint some. Haven’t held a brush in my hand all summer — except to paint the walls of this room!

And that took up my morning. Believe it or not, the room actually looks better than it did!
