The bedroom is mostly put back together (one finial is missing… may be under something in the living room), the books are slowly getting back on the shelf. Slowly, because I am cataloging the books as they go up, except for the oldest. Those I am putting title and author for now. For the others I have a decent program I am trialing (but will soon purchase) that can look up ISBN and Library of Congress for most books and put more information in automatically.

I still need to get the paint for the trim but the drapes, which are more for effect and screening the sun on hot days than darkening or privacy, are now up and look good. A deep browny-purple that looks nice against the yellow wall and sets off the dark bedframe well, and holds a conversation with some of the elements on the opposite wall. I will put up some pics once the trim and books are complete.

I am still considering either replacing or reconfiguring the bedframe. The tall, dark posts make the room seem smaller. I am toying with the idea of cutting the posts at the foot almost off and replacing them with round finials, and shortening the posts at the head and also using finials… or just replacing the bed with a smaller (queensize) frame that would be big enough for us but include some storage underneath. We’ll see. Any of those changes will need to wait for next year I think.

Something that I am not going to wait for: I am going to purchase some used horizontal files from a surplus place and put them under the shelves on the long wall in the room. I will use these for storage of papers, crafts and project materials for teaching — getting them out of the main living space and craft room/office but keeping them handy. The question is — one filing cabinet, or two?
