LATE Blog Action Day…

I was so distracted by the trip I took this month that I completely forgot to post for Blog Action Day (which was on October 16).  So here is what I would have said, had I been less distracted, and more alert. Food is good.  Next to air and water, it’s an essential.  And yet, […]

Babblers Babbling…

Today, FOUR Babblers showed up in Olympia: Bugsaw, Jillibus, jmcnrick, and Pinikula. We had a great time, and plotted our work for tomorrow. I will have pictures of them up then… Right now, a link to the scarves they chose stidmama’s picasa album. More pics and a full report in the morning…

New favorite restaurant in Seattle

Bamboo Garden just two streets north of the Seattle Center. It’s vegan (except the fortune cookies) but you would probably not notice it. The food is filling, tasty and very nicely presented. Prices are reasonable. Parking was adequate, but it’s not really accessible. I think there is a ramp (not sure, came at it from […]

Solstice Greetings!

Our family tries to do something special for the solstice, and most years we manage something fun. Plans sometimes change, and this year due to the snow we won’t visit my parents. We’ll celebrate with them another day. Here’s what we are planning: Roast turkey, rice dressing and a fennel and potato side dish (inspired […]

Sidney, Vancouver Island, British Columbia (Canada)

Hello to all! We are here (see title) today, Stidgrandmere, a stidkid and myself. While on the Big Island we have seen Hetty and her husband (yesterday in Victoria) and lunched with Hetty, Jillibus, Flosey, Raelite, and Saanichcat here in Sidney today. Supper tonight with Raelite’s family, and tomorrow we will be on Salt Spring […]

A recipe that seems so familiar

This is one of several dozen (hundred?) recipes that were stuck (literally stuck, probably with flour-and-water paste) in a couple of books rescued from my grandmother’s kitchen. These books appear to have been compiled by Mrs. L, the woman who used to live in the house between my grandmother’s home and my great-grandmother’s. She had […]

Happy Earth Day

I have a whole slew of webpages that have caught my attention over the last several months. Some of them are about how to minimize your impact on the planet’s resources while maintaining a comfortable life. Some of them have been (or will be) mentioned and linked to in other posts here. This first is […]

Yummy Vegan Knitting (reprise)

Lolo, the blogger who writes VeganYumYum, was on the Martha Stewart Show today. I am not really a fan of Martha Stewart, but I do love to read this blog! It’s inspiring and helpful to me as I try to come up with yummy, attractive things to feed my family.  It was great to see […]

Something Borrowed

The theme today (Valentine’s Day in the United States) is something borrowed… The book I “borrowed” from a friend who has since passed on? The idea I “borrowed” (with permission of course) from my friend in fourth grade? She really drew the best people! The money we “borrowed” from our parents, truly intending to pay […]
