It looked so pretty today in the sunlight that I had to take a picture. Each “stem” has at least 40 perfectly formed miniature blooms. From a distance, they look like grass flowers.

Punxatawney Phooey
I don’t know what the groundhog saw yesterday — my life is so busy, I forgot to check! Still, it does feel that Spring may be in the air in the Pacific Northwest. At least it was for today. Sunny, warm enough to be outside without a hat… The hyacinths under the medlar are already […]
Bright Color, Mid Winter
The stidkid took this picture for me yesterday. I can hardly wait to be able to get outside and work again!
Garden Update
It is raining. The plants are happy. Me? Not so. Finally felt well enough to garden, but no use stirring up mud. It compacts the soil too much. Still, the fence is holding up well. Tom made one minor repair Thursday, and we have small squash forming already. There is a cuke ready to harvest, […]
Trying something new
This is an idea that some friends use in their garden. They stick rebar in the ground, then put electrical conduit over that. Zip-tie bird netting to the “posts” and it’s too scary for the deer. Never mind that a sneeze can break the netting… They touch it with their noses and won’t try to […]
Off to School!
Here are pics of the bright-eyed, bushy-tailed youngsters… Â ready for their first day of school! Â Not quite bushy-tailed… Â Â And fully bushed out! Â Â Here is the “little” brother (note the car and dog for scale – he’s bent over to catch Lucky): Â Â And a pic in front of my […]
Plants in (and planned)
Already in the veggie garden, we have: From starts (Black Lake Organic starts, our favorite local nursery/garden store): Basil (one purple, one green, no name) Calendula (two “citrus” type and two other) Cucumbers (5, various types) Dill (no name) Parsley (flat, italian-style, no name) Tomatoes (3 varieties, I think they are 2 yellow pear, a […]
More plants and mathematics
I figured since I am avoiding math homework I might as well take a couple pics of the garden as it looks since this morning… This is me, looking over the squash (which are a little droopy from the hot sun today), just past 6 pm my time. This is the stidkid, looking over the […]
A few plants…
Here are the pictures we took of the garden on Tuesday. We have pretty much finished forming the basic shape, and have just to do the “finish work” on the remaining two large beds — leveling and breaking up the larger clods. We are not yet screening the soil, but it will need to be […]
Getting Started
We spent two hours this morning working on the garden. Despite having our neighbor do most of the heavy work with his dozer, we still need to form paths, infill at the back and build up the actual planting beds. This first pic shows the amount of dirt that is being moved to fill in […]
