And a time for every purpose…
Change.
So much change.
The garden a couple weeks ago was just beginning to really wake up. Now, it’s in full growth.
Top row: the first bloom on the new (deep red) clematis we planted in back last year; A deep purple bearded iris near the birdbath in the front garden; a volunteer shade (native) flower with delicate white blooms (as yet I haven’t found it in my books). Bottom row: a view down the 8 ft patio in the back showing the leaves of the white Siberian iris but no blooms and the black mostly bare garden arch; and a different, light purple Siberian iris near the birdbath in front but looking the other way so the variations of greens and a few early orange flowers are visible.

And with some work and some time…
The garden today (June 2).

Not everything works out, of course. The beautiful red clematis is just barely hanging on after being nibbled last night (or the night before?). We watered it and I will put a barrier around it before I turn in for the day. There are strawberries from one of the planters that need a new space, and a few trees and other perennials that I want to pot up this week so they can overwinter in the greenhouse and get planted in the spring. We have some big-movement work happening in the garden soon (I hope) and I don’t want to put anything in a permanent position where it’s likely to be smashed.
And of course there are fabrics to be ironed and folded and put away. And clothes (laundry never ends, even after the children are out on their own). And rooms to tidy and clean so we can have guests this summer. And costumes to draft and sew for events. Somehow indoor tasks, as well as outdoor, are easier for me in the warmer, sunnier weather.
But first, another week of school (give or take), students and families to say good-bye to, colleagues to wish well on their journeys to other adventures…
There are more changes to come, but those are a post for a different time.
