The garden right now is in that stage between dormancy and exuberance. Here and there, small reminders that Winter is not forever, and Renewal lies around the corner. It has been a strangely dry winter, mostly mild despite the weeklong snow in January.

Today, March 4, I took a few pics around the garden. Though my health (broken toe) kept me from doing much the last few weeks, it’s a good time for it. Another week or so and I would have felt too far behind. As it is, the peach tree didn’t get sprayed in time, so it will have to struggle through yet another year of “curl” and try to hang on. There are areas that are ready to have the winter mulch pulled away, and large sections that will have to be completely dug this year, grasses and weeds carefully separated from roots, tubers and corms, and desired plants replanted with renewed soils.

Meantime, the lovely hardy bulbs are showing up, and so I was enticed outside for a quick tour. Here in brief is what I found:

And the first daffodil for a finish! Spring is officially on its way!
